The year 1 children have made an excellent transition from Reception and have already settled well in their new class. Over the Autumn term Year 1 will be focussing on Place
Value and Addition and Subtraction skills in Maths and will be carrying out a lot of work practically to aid their understanding in these areas.
In literacy we will be looking at a new book each week and basing our literacy work on our class book. We will also be consolidating the phonics sounds they learnt in Reception as well as building on these with new sounds.
In Science our topic is “Animals including Humans” and we will be looking at the different human body parts and senses. Our Theme lessons will all revolve around “The Carnival of the Animals” and the children will be broadening their knowledge of a variety of animals across the term in these lessons. We have certainly got a lot of learning to do but we can’t wait for the challenges ahead!
