Secondary school admissions

Your helpful guide to applying for a primary school place.

Secondary School Applications

Admissions to secondary schools are co-ordinated by the Local Authority (LA). Parents and carers should apply online, if you cannot apply online you can download a Common Application Form (see below) to complete. You should list the schools that you wish to apply for, in order of preference.

Our advice when completing the Common Application Form would be:

  1. Ensure that your forms are submitted by the closing date of 31st October 2020. If they are not submitted by this date your child’s application will be treated as a ‘late application’ and you will be put to the bottom of priority lists. In the past this has resulted in children from the school not being allocated a school in the local area.

  1. Please list schools in preference order.  If you only list one or two schools and are not successful in gaining a place for your child, then this may result in your child being allocated a place in the nearest school with spaces available.

This would be our usual advice to parents at this time, but in these uncertain times this advice may change

  • Please make sure that you visit school websites for 'Virtual Open Evenings' which have replaced the usual Open Evenings or Open Days.
  • When you apply online please ensure that you receive confirmation that your application has been received.
  • If you are applying for a place for your child at Billericay and you live outside the priority admissions area (and there is not a sibling attending Billericay) your child will need to sit the entrance exam. Parents and carers need to contact Billericay School directly in order to enter the child for their entrance test.

Applications for Selective School Places (11+)

Several parents and carers have expressed an interest in their children sitting the 11+.  Please make sure that you register your child should you wish them to take the entrance exam.

The majority of information can be found at the Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex (CSSE) website.

The key information, which I have taken directly from the website, is as follows:

The Information Guide for 2021 Entry will be published on the website in the Summer Term.

2021 Entry Examination: Saturday 7th November and Monday 9th November 2020

Registration for 2021 Entry: 19th May 2020 until 1st July 2020.

All Important Dates will be published in due course.

We would recommend that parents and carers look on this site for practise papers and information.

Primary and junior school places for September 2021

From November 2020 you can apply online for your child’s primary (Reception) or junior (year 3) school place.

You must submit an application by the national closing date in January 2021. Applications received after this date are considered late and will reduce your chance of being offered a place at your preferred schools.

Admission Arrangements

How to apply for mid-year admissions

We are a single site primary school. We are a one-form entry school with an annual intake of 30.

To apply for a school place for your child, you need to follow the following procedure:

For all year group applications including Reception – you must apply for your child’s school place via the Essex County Council’s web

Once your application has been processed, you will receive a letter from Essex County Council informing you if a place is available or not (this can take up to 3 weeks). If a place is not available you will be added to our waiting list.

In the event of oversubscription places will be allocated using the following criteria in the order given:

  1. Looked After Children and previously looked after children;
  2. Children with a sibling* attending the school;
  3. Children living in the priority admission area;
  4. Remaining applications.

In the event of oversubscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given the highest priority.
