Music

Music Lead: Mr M Jones

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”

At Noak Bridge, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to explore, enjoy and succeed in music. For many children, school may be the first place they experience instruments, different musical styles or live performances. That is why we are committed to offering a rich and exciting music curriculum that inspires creativity, curiosity and confidence.

Music is an important part of our wider curriculum. Through music, children experience different cultures, express themselves creatively and develop skills that support learning across many subjects. We aim to create memorable musical experiences that motivate children and bring learning to life.

What Children Learn in Music

Our music curriculum gives children the opportunity to develop a wide range of musical skills. These include:

· Performing using voices and instruments

· Understanding musical notation

· Developing fluency when playing instruments

· Listening to and appraising music

· Using musical vocabulary to describe what they hear

· Exploring different musical genres and styles

Children are introduced to a variety of composers from different time periods. They learn about the unique features of each style and use this knowledge to inspire their own compositions and performances.

Our curriculum is carefully planned so that musical knowledge and skills build as children move through the school. As they grow, pupils develop greater confidence with instruments, notation and musical language.

Music Across the Curriculum

Music also supports learning in other subjects. For example, pupils may:

· Study historical music when learning about different time periods

· Research famous composers while developing their computing and research skills

· Use music to inspire creative writing in English

Music helps children explore ideas more deeply and encourages them to think creatively.

Developing Confidence and Creativity

In music lessons, children are encouraged to experiment, take risks and try out their own ideas. They learn how to reflect on their work, think about what went well and identify ways to improve. This reflective approach helps children grow in confidence and resilience.

We ensure that pupils understand the purpose of their learning and what success looks like, enabling them to evaluate and celebrate their own progress.

Music in School Life

Music plays an important role in our school community. We provide many opportunities for children to perform, enjoy and celebrate music, including:

· Sharing performances in class, around the school and on our website

· Workshops and assemblies led by visiting musicians and experts

· Music competitions that build confidence and enthusiasm

· A weekly singing assembly where children develop their vocal skills

· School performances such as Christmas plays, nativities and end-of-year shows

· Extracurricular opportunities including choir and peripatetic music lessons

Through these experiences, we hope every child develops a lifelong love of music and the confidence to express themselves creatively.
