Noak Bridge Primary School

Physical Education

PE Lead: Mr S Carswell

At Noak Bridge Primary we use the 'Get Set 4 PE' scheme of work  across the school from EYFS to Year 6.

The scheme is written by qualified teachers which ensures EYFS Statutory Framework and National Curriculum coverage, with a clear progression of skills and knowledge.

At Noak Bridge Primary school, we aim to ensure that all children:

  • Develop knowledge, skills and capabilities to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • Have the required levels of physical fitness to be active for sustained periods of time
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities
  • Develop their understanding of resilience, persistence, concentration, fairness and respect
  • Have opportunities to evaluate and develop their own and others’ performances
  • Lead healthy and active lives
  • Can swim at least 25 metres before the end of Year 6 and know how to remain safe in and around water

P.E. is taught at Noak Bridge Primary School as an area of learning in its own right as well as integrated where possible with other curriculum areas.

We teach PE through:

  • High quality teaching - staff have high expectations of all children
  • Imparting knowledge and modelling skills accurately
  • Providing constructive verbal feedback to children during lessons
  • Support when necessary and challenge to achieve their personal goals

We also:

  • Display and celebrate sporting achievements in celebrations assemblies and on the school website
  • Hold and take part in regular inter-school competitions

Spiritual Development

P.E. contributes to spiritual development by helping students build self-awareness, resilience, and confidence. Through physical challenges, students reflect on their strengths, limitations, and personal growth.

Moral Development

P.E. supports moral development by promoting fairness, respect, and sportsmanship. Students learn to follow rules, accept outcomes, and demonstrate integrity in both competitive and cooperative activities.

Social Development

P.E. strongly develops social skills through teamwork, communication, and collaboration. Students learn to work together, support one another, and build positive relationships through shared physical activity.

Cultural Development

P.E. enhances cultural development by exposing students to a variety of sports and physical activities from different cultures. This broadens their understanding of global traditions and promotes respect for diversity in sport.
